Why should you learn first aid?
It is not safe to drive a car. Many people have accidents on the roads every day. When you get your driver's license, you take on a responsibility for yourself and your fellow road users. You become a driver of a vehicle that can kill people. Therefore, it is important that you are equipped to handle an emergency situation in traffic."
If you are involved in an accident, you are also the first person to be present at the scene of the accident. Therefore, it is your responsibility to stop the accident and provide first aid. It is illegal in Denmark not to provide assistance where possible, for example at an accident scene. So, for your own and others' sake, it is important to take a first aid course.
In Denmark, there are often snow and icy roads. It can also rain so heavily that the roads become slippery and prone to aquaplaning. When you take your driving license, you learn how to handle the car, even in slippery conditions. However, if you still lose control or have an accident, it is incredibly important to know how to react. It is often under these conditions that people have accidents. The car may slide, or the driver may lose control of the vehicle. In this situation, it is crucial to know what to do. It is not enough to remain passive until help arrives, especially if you are involved in an accident with other vehicles.
At a first aid course, you will be thoroughly guided on what to do if you are present at an accident. Step by step, you will be instructed on how to stop the accident and provide the right first aid in different situations. The most important thing is that you will be able to do the right thing if an accident happens. At a first aid course, there is room to ask any questions you may have and that may arise in the event of an accident, before you actually find yourself in the situation. Here, there is room to go through what happens, what to do and how to act, calmly and quietly.
At Driving Academy, we teach you to make the right choices at an accident site. You learn to stop the accident so that neither you nor other people involved are further injured. You will also learn how to handle any injured persons, provide basic resuscitation and provide first aid in the form of prevention of shock.
To achieve the best knowledge in first aid, it is important to have skilled and well-educated instructors. Your course teachers are all trained and approved by the Danish First Aid Council. They will be able to provide you with the right guidance and instruction, as well as assist you with answering any questions you may have throughout the course. Being taught first aid can be associated with a little nervousness for many people. Fortunately, most people have never been involved in an accident, which is why the thought of it can be intimidating. Therefore, we take pride in teaching in a way that gives you knowledge and confidence about what happens in an accident, so that you will feel confident in being able to act correctly. This way, you will feel better equipped on the road, knowing that if an accident occurs, you will be able to make a difference and perhaps save lives.
The course lasts a total of 8 hours and usually consists of two modules. It is important to take the eight hours as consecutively as possible to keep the knowledge you receive fresh in your memory.
You will receive both theoretical and practical instruction. In the theoretical part, you will gain knowledge about what can happen in an accident and what precautions are important to take. You will be equipped with good mnemonic devices for how to act and get a theoretical background in the human body for use in basic life support. You will then apply this knowledge to the practical part of the course, where you will have the opportunity to practice resuscitation on a mannequin. Here, you will get a sense of the technique, how much and how hard to press, and what it feels like to provide life-saving first aid for an extended period. This can equip you with an experience that you will hopefully never need but is important and good to have.
For the first aid course, you will also receive instruction in first aid specifically targeted to traffic accidents. This means that you will be able to act at the scene of a traffic accident.
The first aid course takes place in our own premises at Driving Academy, at Vesterbro 57 in Aalborg. This makes it easier for you to take both the theory lessons for your driving license and the first aid course at the same location.
If you take a first aid course in connection with obtaining your driver's license, it is important that you do so within a year. You will need a first aid course whether you are obtaining a driver's license or a moped license. If you already have a tractor license, you do not need a first aid course. However, we still recommend it for your own and other road users' safety.
